That smell

If you've been anywhere around 7th and Liberty lately, you've smelled the grease pit in the new Moby Fish take-out place. Whew.

According to the menu they put in a City Paper ad, the place is big on catfish and also offers chicken gizzards.

This doesn't seem like a positive addition to the "new" downtown. Wonder what Morton's thinks of the new neighbor?

terry,

I'm a manager at Moby Fish & Chicken, and happened to stumble upon your blog while checking for any reviews about our new restaurant. From the title of your post I take it your not a fan of fried food, sad. Luckily for us, we have had phenomenal succes here so far. Our oil is trans fat free, filtered daily and changed every 2 days. Our biggest seller by far is the Cod sandwich served on a fresh baked mancini egg kaiser( if I'm wrong, and you do like fried food, email me and I'll be happy to treat you).

In addition to a mainly fried menu we are in the process of adding rotisserie chicken and baked fish to the menu.

As far as your question about our neighbors are concerned, we have actually gotten great support from them, everyone from benedum, cafe zao's, mortons, the capitol grille, palate, as well as our fast food peers employees are some of our best customers.

Needless to say our clientelle is wide ranged, during the day being mainly the bussiness crowd with it changing toward late afternoon to a more ecclectic mix of students, theatre goers, and 2nd shift employees.

Anyhow, I hope you take me up on my offer. We always appreciate honest opinions that give us a chance of bettering our operation.
my email is yasinawni@!!!!!.!!!

*i hope that stops the spam my domain is gmail.com

I have to ask again, why do you focus so much on this small pocket of Downtown? You say you don't live near Liberty and 7th, but do you work nearby? I know that the Republican mayoral candidate does. In fact, that's probably his closest T stop.

Do your friends live in the lofts around Liberty Ave.?

Say, that was a smart trick, altering your email to fool the spammers. I've got to give it a try. I'll give your cod sandwich a go to, next time I'm downtown. Good response to a niggling post.

*Manager: Congratulations on your new job. I wish you much success. I also hope you get some really good exhaust fans. Seriously, I was up near CVS where Wood meets Liberty and could still smell the grease. The people in the high rise above you must be choking on it. Then again, I always liked Yovi's, where you could get a great Chicago-styled dog and place a sports bet.

*Anon: I answered this at least once. I write about what I see (or smell, in this case). If you're suggesting there's some other agenda, you're looking for something that's not there. If I see something that grabs me on the Blvd. of the Allies (like guys in suits grabbing the free lunch at St. Mary's Red Door), I'll write about that, too.

If I'm not mistaken, that establishment is closed for business now. Not quite London, I guess, but the public recycling bins are a good trade off for a local quality chipper.

@brian- it figures. of COURSE its closed - as if there is anything in pittsburgh that can develop into a tradition, or a rite of passage, in decades to come.
this city is a heartbreaker.
